Tim Brown – Stakeholder & Engagement Manager, Department for Education

Tim Brown brings over four decades of public service expertise to his role as Stakeholder and Engagement Manager within the Maximising Value for Pupils Directorate at the Department for Education.

Before joining the DfE, Tim spent 36 years in the Department for Work and Pensions, where he was a key member of the external relations team. He is an accomplished stakeholder professional with extensive experience in partnership building, social enterprise, business planning, coaching, and navigating complex areas of government policy. His practical leadership is underpinned by formal study with both the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Institute for Leadership & Management (ILM).

Tim’s commitment to education is demonstrated through his long-standing governance roles. As Chair of Governors at a primary school, he led transformational changes including school expansion, the recruitment of a new headteacher, a governing body restructure, and the successful delivery of two Outstanding Ofsted inspections. He has also served on the Governing Board of a Further Education College, championing skills development in one of Nottinghamshire’s most disadvantaged communities.

Beyond education, Tim spent eight years as a District Councillor, including four years as Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment. During this time, he chaired scrutiny and contributed to every major committee within the local authority.

Tim’s breadth of experience across central government, local government, and the education sector positions him as a dynamic and insightful voice for stakeholder engagement, governance, and public value.
