The Power of Collaboration for Developing Great Teaching
At Badock’s Wood E-ACT Academy in Bristol, teachers working collaboratively have identified simple changes, such as tweaks to classroom layouts and routines, that have improved behaviour and raised achievement in virtually every subject. As part of the initiative, teachers have gained a new perspective on their teaching by taking video recordings of their lessons and sharing them with colleagues.
Executive headteacher Jonathan Arthur can share simple changes teachers have made to turn classroom behaviour around and help children focus on learning. He can discuss strategies for enabling teachers to work together to identify and address the challenges they face in the classroom. Teachers in his school have changed the way they teach – removing textbooks so children are encouraged to verbalise their thoughts, feelings, and knowledge.
