Alison Toombs

SEND Adviser, Norfolk County Council

Alison Toombs is a SEND Adviser for Norfolk County Council, working within the Virtual School for SEND. She supports schools to support children and young people with SEND. Alison started her career working with children and young people with emotional difficulties and special educational needs, and their families, more than 20 years ago as a volunteer and nursery playworker. She then became a pupil specific teaching assistant in a primary school for a child with learning difficulties and a genetic physical disability. During this time she returned to study and gained an honours degree in Learning, Research and Technology and after gaining Qualified Teacher status, became a teacher and head of department in a secondary school. She has worked as a class teacher, SENDCo, Assistant Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher at a complex needs school.
